My Story

My name is Kimberly Cleeland. I am the mother of 3 wonderful children, ages 21, 23, and 33. I was born in Denver Colorado. I lived in Denver for the first 6 years of my life. The next 6 years I lived in Alabama, Mississippi, and Albuquerque New Mexico. In 1977 we made our final move to Southern
California and this has been my home. I started babysitting when I was 12 years old and have loved children all my life. At 18 years old I started working in the corporate world, first in the Title Insurance business, then in management, then as an Employment Councilor. In 1996 I got pregnant with my 2nd child and quit the corporate world. I had to go back to work but could not stand the thought of leaving my children in someone else’s care over 12-14 hours a day, so I decided to stay home, unfortunately our
household could not make it without a second income so I had no choice but to go back to work. I tried a few different jobs but was miserable. Then a friend came to me and told me about this thing called a Doula. I had never even heard the word before not to mention what it even meant. I did some research and found out it was something I could do at night, so I would be able to stay home with my children during the day. I thought this would be perfect for me. I joined the agency my friend told me about and
within one week I met with my first client at St John’s Hospital in Santa Monica and started working with that family two days later. From that first client I knew this is what I was meant to do. I continued with
the agency for about 2 years and in that two years gave birth to my 3rd

child. In 1999 I ventured out and started my own business.

I have been a Postpartum Doula now for 20 years and am very passionate about helping mothers and families learn and adjust to having a newborn or newborns come into the home. In the last 20 years I
have continued to take classes on breastfeeding, health and nutrition, newborn care, circumcision, sleep training, postpartum recovery, and have also assisted in several Bris ceremonies. My job is to inform and
educate families along with emotional and physical support, as well as the soothing and nurturing care that is needed during these special times. It is such a blessing that I am able to utilize my skills, knowledge, and education to help mothers and families in this area. The services I provide are
Newborn/infant care, postpartum recovery, Breastfeeding support, health and nutrition, Umbilical cord care, bathing techniques, baby laundry, Nursery organization, sibling interaction and Sleep Training. I am also willing to assist families in any other areas needed during my time with them. I work primarily overnight, but on occasion will serve as a backup for days. My goals for the future are to become a Lactation consultant and a Birth Doula. Thank you for the opportunity to tell you who I am and what I
do.
